Collaboration Key Component To GO Virginia Initiative

RICHMOND – The GO Virginia board is pleased to announce that it will join the Department of Housing and Community Development to host the GO Virginia Orientation Conference on Thursday, April 20, 2017 from 9:00AM – 3:00PM. The Conference, which will be held in Richmond, will provide an opportunity to learn more about how regional collaboration can be used to address Virginia’s economic challenges and opportunities. Governor McAuliffe is scheduled to give closing comments. Delegates Cox and Jones and Senator Howell, who all provided leadership in the passage of the GO Virginia legislation in 2016, will also deliver remarks.

As implementation of GO Virginia continues to move forward, the Conference will serve to further assist the regional councils by bringing together the council members, the State Board, and state and local leaders to discuss the economic concerns facing the Commonwealth and to demonstrate how GO Virginia can serve as a vehicle to help address those problems. Baseline economic data, which will be released at the Conference, will serve as a barometer against which the regional councils can measure future economic performance as projects begin to unfold, and it will help track the success of each region in creating more higher-paying jobs.

Growth and Opportunity Board Chairman Dubby Wynne said, “As momentum continues to build for GO Virginia, we are pleased to be able to work with DHCD to bring people together to learn both the basics of the program as well as best practices around regional collaboration. Such collaboration is at the heart of the GO Virginia initiative, and this conference is just one more example of how Virginians across the commonwealth are working together to grow the economy of every region.”

The Conference will feature four afternoon breakout sessions built around topics where project funding applications are expected to cluster:

  • Incubators and accelerators
  • Scale up activities
  • Joint site development
  • Workforce and talent development initiatives
